Community Collections: Dani DiPrima Designs

#CommunityCollections with Female Creator, Maker and Textured Artist Dani DiPrima

I was first referred to Dani from a friend while looking for art to hang in my new Point Loma office. I wanted to support a local artist, but also maintain a beachy and minimal aesthetic throughout my office space—the moment I looked at Dani's portfolio, I know it was the perfect fit. She created the perfect piece to sit right above my desk, and I couldn't be happier.

I wanted to learn more about her journey to creating art, her inspirations, and of course, some of her favorite local, San Diego hangs. Check it out! - Meyer

How would you define your personal aesthetic—in design, home, and life?

I gravitate towards whites, neutrals, and lots of textures.

What inspired you to start creating art?

I purchased my first home last year and I went on a hunt for white, minimal, but textured art, and it turned out to be pretty challenging to find. So instead, I created the art I envisioned for my home. I shared photos of my pieces, simply because I loved them so much, and the response was overwhelming. I had no idea how many other people would love my art and want something similar in their space.

How long have you been working with textured art pieces, and what's your favorite part about creating them?

On September 17, 2020, I posted a photo of my first textured set. From that post, my inbox was filled with messages from people asking if I can make something similar for their homes. Requests asking to match tones in a rug, or the metal accents around their home to even designing five arches on the canvas to represent a family of 5. That’s probably my favorite part of creating custom pieces—they’re inspired by my clients’ vision and bringing it to life with them.

What's your favorite color palette?

Neutrals, creams, and whites.

What neighborhood do you currently live in, and what's your favorite thing about it?

La Costa, San Diego. My neighborhood is so serene you can hear the birds chirp in the morning with the cool crispy beach air—it’s a lovely environment to get my creativity flowing. I create all my pieces in my garage-studio.

Can you share a few of your favorite local businesses in San Diego?

A few local businesses I love to visit are Lofty Coffee, Pigment, and Culture Brewing.

What has been the biggest risk and biggest reward across your artistic endeavors?

The biggest risk is always being challenged with a new idea from a client and hoping I create something they will love for a long time. The biggest reward is when a client reaches out months later saying they are still in love with the piece I created for their home and want to order more!

What's your biggest source of inspiration?

Lauren Williams Art is another female artist that I look up to so much. To me, she really has paved the way for female creators and possibilities for interior decor. I aspire one day to be at the level of success she is at.

Dani has a handful of DiPrima Designs' Originals available at any given time, plus you can request custom commissions, as I did for my office! You can find more of Dani's work, current designs, and contact information on her website
